How to use
- Fill in the name, company, phone numbers, email, address and so on. Empty fields are left out.
- Check the vCard text and the QR code in the preview.
- Click "Download .vcf" to save the file, or "Save QR code as PNG" to save the image.
Notes
- The output is vCard 3.0 in UTF-8 with CRLF line breaks. Some devices and apps garble non-ASCII text, so check the contact after importing it.
- The QR code data is not line-folded. Contact apps differ in how well they read vCard QR codes, so some fields may be missing after a scan.
- The QR code contains your personal details as plain text. Check that you are happy to share them before publishing or printing the image.
- Phonetic names, photos and multiple addresses are not supported.
Glossary
vCard (.vcf)
A standard file format for storing and exchanging contacts. It uses the .vcf extension and can be imported by phones and mail apps.
N and FN
N holds the name split into parts, and FN is the full display name. Both are required in vCard 3.0, so the organization name is used as the display name when no personal name is given.
Line folding
vCard lines must stay within 75 octets; longer lines continue on the next line, which starts with a single space. The .vcf file is folded this way.
FAQ
How do I import the .vcf file into my phone?
On iPhone, open the .vcf file and choose "Create New Contact". On Android, use the import option in the Contacts app or open the file with it. You can also import it into Outlook or Google Contacts on a computer.
Which vCard version is used? Is 4.0 supported?
It outputs vCard 3.0, chosen for compatibility with iPhone, Android, Outlook and other major apps. Version 4.0 support is uneven across apps, so it is not offered.
Why are some fields missing after scanning the QR code?
Support for vCard QR codes differs between camera and contact apps. Company, job title and note are sometimes dropped, so keeping only the fields you need makes a clean import more likely.
Why can I not make a QR code when there are many fields?
A QR code holds a limited amount of data, and a note or full address can exceed it. Remove some fields or lower the error correction level. The .vcf file has no such size limit.
