Whack-a-Mole Game (30-Second Challenge)
Click or tap the cats as they pop out of the holes. You have 30 seconds, and the cats appear faster and stay up for less time as the clock runs down. Your best score is saved on this device. To test your reflexes in a different way, try the Reaction Time Test.

How to use
- Press "Start" to begin the 30-second game.
- When a cat pops out of a hole, click or tap it right away.
- Hitting an empty hole counts as a miss. The game speeds up over time, so stay focused.
- When the 30 seconds are up you see your score and accuracy. Press "Play again" to retry.
Notes
- Your score is the number of cats you hit. Tapping an empty hole does not lower the score, but it counts as a miss and lowers your accuracy.
- A cat stays up for about 1.2 seconds at the start and about 0.65 seconds near the end. The gap between appearances shrinks in the same way.
- Your best score is stored only in this browser (localStorage) and is never sent to a server. Clearing your browser data removes it.
- On slower devices the timing can feel off. Closing other tabs and apps helps.
- If you are sensitive to fast-moving or flashing screens, take care.
Glossary
Whack-a-mole
A classic arcade game where you hit targets popping out of holes before they disappear. It tests reflexes and how quickly you can switch your aim.
Accuracy
The share of your hits that landed on a cat. Mashing at random lowers it.
FAQ
How is the score counted?
Your score is the number of cats you hit while they are out. Hitting an empty hole does not reduce it, but it counts as a miss and lowers your accuracy. Hitting the same cat twice only counts once.
How much harder does the game get?
Over the 30 seconds, the gap between appearances shrinks from about 0.9 s to about 0.4 s, and each cat stays up for about 1.2 s at first and about 0.65 s at the end. Later on, several cats can be out at once.
Where is my best score stored?
Only in your browser's localStorage; nothing is sent to a server. It does not carry over if you clear browser data, switch browsers or devices, or play in private mode.
Does it work on a phone without the page scrolling or zooming?
Yes, you can play by tapping. While a game is running, the board does not scroll or zoom on double-tap. The rest of the page scrolls as usual.
