HTML Tag Stripper & Plain Text Extractor
Paste HTML source or an email body to remove the tags and keep only readable text. Scripts, styles and comments are dropped, and the HTML is never executed or rendered. To show tags as literal text instead, use the HTML Escape tool.
🔒 Runs in your browser · Your data is never sent to a server
Notes
- The HTML is parsed as a string and never executed or rendered. It is not inserted into the page DOM, so pasted scripts cannot run.
- The result can differ from what a browser shows. CSS visibility (such as display:none) and content added later by JavaScript are not taken into account.
- The contents of script, style, template, noscript and head (including title) are removed.
- Common named entities and numeric references are decoded. Unknown names are left as they are.
Glossary
HTML entity
A way to write special characters in HTML, such as & or あ. Decoding turns them back into the real characters, like & or あ.
Block element
An element such as p, div, li or h1 that starts on its own line when displayed. This tool can keep those positions as line breaks.
FAQ
Can scripts in the pasted HTML run?
No. The HTML is never inserted into the DOM; it is parsed as a plain string and the tags are removed. The contents of script, style and comments are discarded.
Can I keep link URLs?
Tick "Keep link URLs" and links are written as "link text (URL)". Nothing is added when the link text already equals the URL, or for anchors like # and javascript: links.
Are paragraph and list line breaks preserved?
Yes. Lines break at p, div, li, h1-h6, br and table rows (paragraphs get one blank line). Line breaks and repeated spaces in the HTML source count as a single space, as in a browser.
Why does the result differ from the rendered page?
Elements hidden with CSS and content inserted later by JavaScript cannot be detected from the HTML string alone. If you need exactly what is displayed, select and copy it in the browser.
