How to use

  1. Choose a difficulty (Easy, Medium or Hard). A new game starts as soon as you pick one.
  2. Click or tap a card to flip it, then flip a second one. If the pictures match, they stay face up.
  3. If they do not match, they flip back after a short moment. Remember where each picture is.
  4. Match every pair to win. Press “New game” to deal again.

Notes

  • The card layout is shuffled in your browser every game and never sent to a server.
  • A move is counted each time you flip two cards. The timer starts when you flip the first card and stops when the last pair is matched.
  • Best records are stored per difficulty in this browser’s local storage. They are not carried over if you clear site data or switch browsers or devices. In private windows or other environments that cannot store data, records last only while the page is open.
  • Game progress is not saved. Reloading the page starts a new game.
  • How emoji look depends on your operating system and browser.

Glossary

Memory match (Concentration)

A card game where face-down cards are flipped two at a time and you try to find pairs with the same picture. It tests how well you remember where each card is. Also called Pairs, Pelmanism or Concentration.

Working memory

The ability to hold information in mind for a short time while using it. In memory match, you rely on it to keep track of the pictures you have just seen and where they were.

FAQ

How are moves and time counted?

One move is counted each time you flip two cards. The time runs from the moment you flip the first card until the last pair is matched. After you press “New game”, the clock does not start until you flip a card.

How many cards and pairs does each difficulty have?

Easy has 12 cards (6 pairs), Medium has 16 (8 pairs) and Hard has 30 (15 pairs). The pictures for each game are picked at random from a larger set, so you are very unlikely to get the same layout twice.

Where are my best records stored?

In your browser’s local storage, as the fewest moves and shortest time for each difficulty. They are not sent to any server, so clearing site data or opening the page in another browser or device starts you from scratch.

Are best moves and best time updated separately?

Yes. If you set a new low move count but finish slower than your best time, only the moves record changes. The two records do not have to come from the same game.

What if I click again before a mismatched pair flips back?

You do not have to wait. The two visible cards flip back immediately and the card you clicked becomes your new first card, which keeps the pace quick.
