Unit Price Comparator: Which Size Is the Better Deal?

Enter each product's price and size, and the tool works out the price per 100 g, per 100 ml, or per item and marks the cheapest one. It also shows how much more every other option costs than the cheapest. Mixed units such as kg and g, or L and ml, are converted automatically. You can enter a multipack (for example 6 bottles) and adjust for tax if a price excludes it. Everything is calculated in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to a server. For sales tax, try the Tax Calculator; to convert units, try the Unit Converter.

    Notes

    • Products are compared in the unit type of the first one you fill in (weight, volume or count). Products of another type are left out, and the reason is shown.
    • Prices marked as excluding tax are converted to tax-included at that rate before comparing, so mixed tax-included and tax-excluded prices can be compared fairly.
    • Milliliters and grams are each simply scaled to 100; density (water versus oil, for example) is not considered, and weight cannot be compared with volume.
    • Unit price is not the only factor. Consider how much you will really use, shelf life and quality, because a bulk pack you cannot finish is not a bargain.

    Glossary

    Unit price

The price converted to a common amount, such as 100 g or one item. It lets you compare products of different sizes fairly.

    Price per 100 g

The unit price shown on many shelf labels. The formula is price divided by size, multiplied by 100.

    FAQ

How is the price per 100 g calculated?

It is price divided by size, times 100. A 500 g pack at 3.98 comes to 0.80 per 100 g, while a 1 kg pack at 6.98 is 0.70 per 100 g, about 14% cheaper. Sizes entered in kg or L are converted to g or ml first.

How do I enter a multipack such as 6 bottles?

Put the size of one item in "Size" and the number of items in "Packs / count". Six 500 ml bottles for 5.98 are 500 ml with a count of 6, so 3000 ml in total and about 0.20 per 100 ml.

    Can I mix tax-included and tax-excluded prices?

Yes. Choose "Tax included", "Excl. 10% tax" or "Excl. 8% tax" for each product. Tax-excluded prices are converted to tax-included before the unit price is found, so every product is compared on the same basis.

Can I compare a product sold by weight with one sold by volume?

No. Grams and milliliters are different kinds of measure because density varies, so they are not converted. Products whose type differs from the first one you entered (weight, volume or count) are left out, and the reason is shown.
