Breakout Game – Bounce the Ball and Clear Every Brick
A classic brick-breaker: bounce the ball off your paddle and clear the whole wall. Move the paddle with the mouse or the arrow keys (or A/D) on a computer, or by dragging across the board or using the on-screen buttons on a phone. Hitting the ball with the edge of the paddle sends it off at a sharper angle, upper rows are worth more points, and the ball gets faster on every level. Your best score is saved. How to use
- Press "Start game" to begin (or press the space bar while the game screen is focused).
- Move the paddle with the mouse or the arrow keys (or A/D), or on a phone by dragging across the board or using the on-screen "←" and "→" buttons.
- The ball waits on the paddle. Click or tap, press the space bar, or press "Launch" to shoot it.
- Clear every brick without dropping the ball to reach the next level. You lose after dropping the ball three times. Use "Pause" to take a break.
Notes
- Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
- Where the ball meets the paddle sets its angle: the center sends it straight up, and the edges send it off more sharply.
- You have three lives. Dropping the ball costs one, and the next ball waits on the paddle.
- Upper rows score more (60, 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 points), and the ball gets faster on each level.
- Your best score is stored in this browser’s local storage. It is not carried over if you clear site data or switch browsers or devices.
- The game pauses automatically when you switch tabs or leave the page. Game progress is not saved.
Glossary
Paddle
The bar at the bottom of the screen that bounces the ball back. Where the ball lands on it changes the angle it leaves at.
FAQ
How is the ball’s angle decided?
By where it meets the paddle: the center sends it straight up, and the closer to an edge, the sharper the angle. Walls and bricks reflect it normally. Use the paddle edges to aim at the bricks you want to clear.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Drag your finger across the board and the paddle follows; tap to launch the ball. You can also use the on-screen "←", "→" and "Launch" buttons. The page does not scroll while you touch the board, so scroll from outside it.
When is it game over?
When you have dropped the ball three times. Each drop costs one life and the next ball waits on the paddle. Clearing every brick takes you to the next level.
The game stopped when I opened another tab
The game pauses automatically when you switch tabs or leave the page so that you do not lose the ball while away. Press "Resume" or the space bar to continue.
Where is my best score stored?
Only in this browser’s local storage; nothing is sent to a server. It is not carried over if you clear site data or play on a different browser or device.
