Glossary
Placeholder image
A temporary image used in web design and app development to reserve space until the final image is ready. Handy for checking layouts and testing.
PNG / JPEG / WebP
PNG is lossless, JPEG is a lossy format suited to photos, and WebP offers similar quality at a smaller size. Flat-color placeholders stay small even as PNG.
FAQ
Is there a maximum image size?
Width and height can be up to 4096 px each. Larger sizes are not supported because they strain the browser.
What is a placeholder image used for?
It stands in for real images during design mockups, layout checks, code testing and documentation samples.
Can I change the background and text colors?
Yes. Set the background and text colors in #RGB or #RRGGBB format and change the text; if left empty, the label shows width × height. Download as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
