Gamepad Tester (Buttons, Sticks & Drift)

Connect a PS5, PS4, Xbox or Switch Pro controller and press buttons to see which ones register. Stick positions and trigger pressure are shown as numbers, so you can tell whether a stick is drifting when you are not touching it. To test a keyboard instead, use the Keyboard Tester. Nothing leaves your browser.

Connect a gamepad and press any button. Browsers do not detect a controller until a button is pressed.

Notes

  • For privacy, browsers do not expose a gamepad until a button is pressed. Press one button after connecting.
  • Gamepad input is only read while this tab is active. Switching to another tab or window pauses it.
  • Button names in PlayStation/Xbox style are shown only for controllers with the "standard" mapping. Other controllers show buttons by number.
  • The threshold (deadzone) is the tilt beyond which a stick is flagged as off center. It only affects this page and is not written to the controller.
  • Rumble works only with a supported controller in Chromium-based browsers, and may not work over Bluetooth.

Glossary

Stick drift

A fault where a stick reports input away from center even though it is not being touched, usually from worn internal sensors or dust.

Deadzone

A range near the stick center where small tilts are ignored. Games use it to suppress unintended movement caused by drift.

Analog trigger

A button such as LT/RT (L2/R2) that reports how far it is pressed as a value from 0 to 1. Ordinary buttons are just pressed or not pressed.

FAQ

My gamepad is connected but not detected.

Browsers do not expose a gamepad until a button is pressed, so press any button after connecting. If it still does not appear, try another USB cable, re-pair the Bluetooth connection, or check that another app such as Steam is not holding the controller.

How can I tell if a stick is drifting?

Leave the stick untouched and look at the "Sticks & axes" values. If they stay well away from 0.00, the stick may be drifting. Values up to about ±0.10 are normal wear or unit variation and are absorbed by the deadzone in most games.

Is my input saved or sent anywhere?

No. Button and stick values are only used to draw the display and are never uploaded or stored.

Buttons are shown as numbers (#0, #1…).

Names such as A/B/X/Y and L1/R1 are shown only for controllers recognized with the "standard" mapping. Other controllers number their buttons differently per model, so they are shown by number.
