Crop an Image into a Circle or Rounded Corners (Transparent PNG)

Load an image, crop it into a circle or a rounded square, and save it as a PNG or WebP with a transparent background. It is handy for profile pictures on social media. Drag to move the crop position and adjust how round the corners are. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. For a plain rectangular crop, use the Image Cropper.

How to use

  1. Drag and drop an image file into the box, or pick one with the button.
  2. Choose "Circle" or "Rounded" under "Shape". For rounded corners, adjust "Corner roundness (%)".
  3. Click or drag on the image to set the crop position, then widen or narrow it with "Crop size (px)".
  4. If needed, pick an "Output size (long side)" and a "Format", then click "Download transparent image".

Notes

  • With "Square crop" the area is always a square. With "Keep original ratio" the whole image is used, and "Circle" becomes an ellipse.
  • Transparency is kept in PNG and WebP. JPEG has no transparency, so it is not offered here.
  • The output size can only shrink the image; it never enlarges it beyond the cropped area.
  • For GIF and animated WebP, only the first frame is used. Images up to 16384 px per side and 50 million pixels in total can be loaded.

Glossary

Transparent PNG

A PNG image that can have a see-through background. The area outside a circular crop becomes transparent, so it blends into any page color.

Rounded corners

Softening the corners of a rectangle. At maximum roundness, a square becomes a circle.

Alpha channel

Per-pixel transparency data. PNG and WebP have it; JPEG does not.

FAQ

Is the background transparent after a circular crop?

Yes. Saved as PNG or WebP, everything outside the circle is transparent. JPEG cannot hold transparency, so it is not offered here.

How do I choose the crop position?

With "Square crop", click or drag on the image to center the crop there. Use "Crop size (px)" to widen or narrow it, or type "Left X" and "Top Y". "Recenter" resets it.

How round can the corners be?

"Corner roundness (%)" accepts 0 to 100. 0 keeps sharp corners, and 100 uses a radius of half the shorter side, which makes a square look like a circle.

Does a tall or wide image become an ellipse?

If you choose "Keep original ratio", the whole image is used and "Circle" becomes an ellipse. For a true circle, choose "Square crop".

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Cropping and exporting happen entirely in your browser, and the image is never sent anywhere.
