Notes
- Emoji and some symbols look different depending on the OS, browser and app. In some environments they are not displayed and appear as □ or ?.
- Platform-dependent characters such as circled numbers and unit symbols (㈱) can turn into garbled text or cause errors depending on the system or encoding (for example Shift_JIS). For email subjects, file names and business systems, plain characters are safer.
- Kaomoji are combinations of several characters, and in some environments parts of them may look broken.
- Search matches group names, keywords and the characters themselves. You cannot search by a single character’s official name.
Glossary
Platform-dependent character
A character that can be displayed or stored correctly only on certain systems. Circled numbers (①) and ㈱ are typical examples and may be garbled on the recipient’s side.
Emoji
Picture-shaped characters included in Unicode. Each OS and app draws them with its own design, so the same emoji can look different on another screen.
FAQ
What happens when I click a character?
It is added to the end of the "Selected characters" box. Pick more characters, then press Copy to copy them all to the clipboard at once. You can also edit the box directly.
Emoji show up as □ or ?
Your OS, browser or font does not support that emoji. Newer emoji are often missing on older systems. The place you paste into may differ from your own device, so choose widely supported emoji when it matters.
Is it safe to use circled numbers (①) or ㈱?
They usually display fine in documents and social posts, but systems that use older encodings such as Shift_JIS, email subjects, file names and business software may garble them or reject them. In those places use plain text such as "(1)" or "(Co., Ltd.)".
I cannot find the symbol I am looking for
Search matches group names, keywords (such as "star" or "arrow") and the characters themselves. It cannot search by an individual symbol’s name, so try a keyword for the closest category.
