Glossary
dpi (resolution)
Dots per inch. A lower value loses image detail but produces a smaller file.
JPEG compression
Lossy compression suited to photos. Lower quality means a smaller file but more noise around text.
Encrypted (password-protected) PDF
A PDF that requires a password to open. This tool cannot process password-protected PDFs.
FAQ
Will text remain selectable after compression?
No. Each page is re-compressed as an image, so text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links, bookmarks and forms are lost.
Which PDFs compress best?
PDFs made mostly of photos or scans shrink the most. Text-based PDFs may even become larger after being converted to images.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
